Bloomberg Essentials Online Training Program (previously known as Bloomberg Certification):

The Mahaffey Business Information Center at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business offers students the ability to learn about the Bloomberg Professional Service.  One of the ways this can be done (and also receive recognition for it) is through the Bloomberg Essentials Online Training Program (BESS), previously known as Bloomberg Certification.  The program, recognized worldwide, will signal to prospective employers that you have attained a high level of competency in using the Bloomberg Professional Service as well as optimize your job performance.

In order to receive a “Recognition of Completion” (what used to be referred to as “Certification”) from Bloomberg, a student needs to do the following things on the Bloomberg workstation:

    1. Create his/her own individual LOGIN NAME and PASSWORD for the Bloomberg Professional Service.
    2. Watch a set of videos (4 Core and a minimum of 1 Market Sector).
    3. Complete the Core Exam and a Market Sector exam (based on the videos) and achieve a 75% or better grade.
    4. Request an acknowledgement of completion from Bloomberg.

In a nutshell:

4 Core Videos + 1 Market Sector Video + Core Exam + Market Sector Exam = Recognition of Completion

Information about the Videos

There are four Core videos that Bloomberg has created to help the beginner learn the most important functions of Bloomberg.  As part of the program, you MUST watch all 4 of these Core videos.

Once the Core videos have been viewed, a student may then choose to watch any one or all of the Market Sector videos, which will introduce you to market fundamentals of various asset classes.  These videos give more detail on the market sectors in Bloomberg.  If your Bloomberg use is focused on one of these sectors, it is not a bad idea to watch the video of the sector you use the most after getting a basic understanding of Bloomberg.  At a minimum, 1 of the Market Sector videos must be watched and the corresponding exam taken.
